Who's Watching You?

Recently, surveilliance had been a hot topic in UK, lots of people had been asking if their lifes been spying by the government or other private sector, the answer is YES. Not just UK, its everywhere around the Earth. That is something we have to get used to it, being our private life known to the government or other public sector, really makes you felt annoyed sometimes, but Terrorism Prevention Act, Internal Security Act, or what-ever-they-like-to-call-it act where they made it just to spy on us legally...

This is 3 one-hour programme made by BBC UK, its all about UK surveillance, on how our daily lifes is pulled into the world of espionage..

Ranging from daily driving to work and being logged by the national police system using ANPR (Automated Number Plate Recognition system) to spy cameras installed on your house without your notice...

Recovering deleted files

I had once promised ah Boon to teach him about recovering deleted files using Digital Forensic technique, so here it is... Click on the pictures for larger sizes...

Please note that certain information in the pictures below are removed for my own security purposes.... sorry for all inconveniences...

The software I used is a freeware, where anybody can download it and use it...
It's called Winhex.. since it is a free software, it can only recover the size of files no larger than 2MB if I'm not wrong..

Here, I had used a USB Flashdrive, which had been popular nowadays, just like mobile phone, everyone have at least one, while me I have lots... I had formatted it, place two folders containing files on it into the flashdrive, shown below...

1

So, the two folders are "HTML" and "Firearms"...

2

3

I chose to delete the "Firearms" folder. In USB flashdrive, the stuffs that you delete will not go into recycle bin, but it looks like it has been "deleted" forever to you and me, but its not. This goes the same to hard disk drive. When you hit the delete button, the computer does not use an eraser to wipe the data off, nor put those stuffs into a recycle bin just like you throw your rubbish, but writing extra information onto the stuffs that you chose to delete, the extra information is tagging those files, stating the files is no longer required, and is open for re-writing new information on it, so if that space is not re-written, it will remain there for as long as it takes..

In Winhex, what I like the most is, after you download the zip files, you can un-zip them into a folder you like, and you doesn't need to install them, you can run them on your USB Flashdrive or Hard Disk Drive whenever and where ever you like... Here is the UI for winhex...

4

To examine the disk drive you want, click "Tools", and then "Open Disk", or just type F9.

5

It will list out a series of disk drive including USBs Flashdrive plugged into your computer.. Choose the one you are going to examine...

6

Then it will scan every single item on your drive, it will list out lots of stuffs that you didn't know it was there in your flash drive... Shocking huh???? The above panel is all your files in the flashdrive, the lower middle panel is files written on Hexdecimal code, I might talk about Hexadecimal code in other post... depends on demand...
On the right panel will show all the information on your flashdrive...

7

Here's a comparison on what you normally see, and what you normally doesn't see....
This includes the deleted folder "Firearms"..

8

Where the folder icon is different from others (HTML)...

So, here, I wanted to recover my "Firearms" folder, right click that folder, and click "Recover/Copy"..

9

And then select your Target/Destination Folder, in other words, where do you want the folder to be save to... I chose back my flashdrive folder..

10

and it starts to recover...

11

After recovering, it will tells you how many files and folders had been successfully recovered, sometimes if the file had been overwritten or corrupted, then the data is long gone and please just kiss goodbye...

12

and this is the result... A recovered folder containing files...

13

Lesson for digital forensic, is never send your computer with your hard disk to some repairmen, trust nobody... This happens to Edison Chen... He claimed he had deleted all his files, but all those files are recoverable... So, go for some basic computer course, learn how to format and install windows on your own... if there is really a hardware problem, remove your hard disk first before sending the computer for service...

Paintball = Painball

This event had been like almost 2 weeks ago.. but now only I post about this..

Well, my friend had thought of organising this, and so we went to play..

Initially we thought we had booked for the whole game since we have about 20 people..

When we reach there, there are like about 100 people playing for this game, and we were like, ok, so we will be shooting at somebody we don't know, and we will be shot at by somebody we don't know as well..

But the coverall we wore, we can't even differentiate between ourselves.. Basically we are literally the same like this...

DSCN8264

and the ammunition we used is of course paintballs, for size I used a Pilot G2 for comparison..

DSCN8267

300fps, and this big balls, getting shot at is not a very good idea, especially when it hits you without anything covering you... and close range of course..

long range hitting will not burst the ball if it hits you, you will just feel the pain.. long range is recommended for shooting at hard surfaces such as trees..

while if you want the ball to burst on impact at a soft target such as me and you, and maybe some squirrels, you got to run towards your enemy.. but trust me, by the time you be rambo and run towards the enemy, some "campers" will already shot you, and you won't even know where the hell they are...

this is my first "wound", literally i was "camping" at the first game, the all known flag game, where opponent have to snatch each other flag and return to base, and since this is our first game, we stay and protect the base..

DSCN8269

I was shooting at somebody that tried to came near to our base, until I was shot at my right wrist.. it came from behind, in other words, its a friendly fire... until now, I still don't know which fella did that to me... its quite pain as well.. forget about the paint, it can be wipe off by your coverall easily and you can cheat and get back to the game..

one of the game I felt proud the most is the opponent had to defend their base and protect 4 flags, while we have the privileges to run around and attack from 4 sides, so its 30 over people inside a bunker waiting to be shot at, and 30 over people outside trying to shoot somebody.. the flags??? who cares about the flags???? but we still manage to pull out some tactics.. i did some cover shooting near the bunker, while my comrades ran near to the bunker and snatch the flags.. I ran towards the bunker, the scene just like CS doing CQB, I saw some guy was sitting inside the bunker, he stare at me, I shot him...... and we clear the bunker... and won the game...

~~~
this is just another scene of me suiciding myself due to exam stress... again....
DSCN8294
and this is Dane John Garden...
DSCN8301
will post something later if I'm bored...
Uncylopedia of Bolehsia
With exam is just one more day to go, we had been procrastinate for almost the whole day today..
A sign of successful procrastination is, I had learnt how to solve a Rubik's Cube in 4 days time, no not solving the cube in 4 days time, but learning how to solve.. I can solve a typical scrambled cube in under 3 minutes.. or so...
Another sign of procrastination is, we found this website... Uncylopedia..
It is almost the same as Wikipedia, but more with hilarious humours..
Warning! This site is full of dangerous material, care must be taken before entering.
The best part is, the entry of Malaysia!!!
Bolehland is Boleh!!!
The best part of this page I like is:
"If it's a Malay problem, it's a national problem;
If it's a Chinese problem, it's a racial problem;
If it's an Indian problem, it's not a problem."
and also the UnBiased Government of Malaysia... (copied from Uncylopedia of Malaysia)
(1) Of the five major banks, only one is multi-racial, the rest are controlled by Malays.
(2) 99% of Petronas directors are Malays.
(3) 3% of Petronas employees are Chinese.
(4) 99% of 2000 Petronas gasoline stations are owned by Malays.
(5) 100% all contractors working under Petronas projects must be of Bumis status.
(6) 0% of non-Malay staff are legally required in Malay companies. But there must be 30% Malay staffs in Chinese companies.
(7) 5% of all new intake for government police, nurses, army, are non-Malays.
(8) 2% is the present Chinese staff in Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF), a drop from 40% in 1960.
(9) 2% is the percentage of non-Malay government servants in Putrajaya, but Malays make up 98%.
(10) 7% is the percentage of Chinese government servants in the entire government (in 2004); a drop from 30% in 1960.
(11) 95% of government contracts are given to Malays.
(12) 100% all business licensees are controlled by Malay government, e.g. Taxi permits, Approved permits, etc.
(13) 80% of the Chinese rice millers in Kedah had to be sold to Malay controlled Bernas in 1980s. Otherwise, life is made difficult for Chinese rice millers.
(14) 100 big companies set up, owned and managed by Chinese Malaysians were taken over by government, and later managed by Malays since 1970s, e.g. UTC, UMBC, MISC, etc.
(15) At least 10 Chinese owned bus companies (throughout Malaysia in the past 40 years) had to be sold to MARA or other Malay transport companies due to rejection by Malay authorities to Chinese applications for bus routes and rejection for their applications for new buses.
(16) Two Chinese taxi drivers were barred from driving in Johor Larkin bus station. There are about 30 taxi drivers and three were Chinese in Oct. 2004. Spoiling taxi club properties was the reason given.
(17) 0 non-Malays are allowed to get shop lots in the new Muar bus station (Nov. 2004).
(18) 8000 billion ringgit is the total amount the government channeled to Malay pockets through ASB, ASN, MARA, privatization of government agencies, Tabung Haji etc, through NEP over a 34 years period.
(19) 48 Chinese primary schools closed down from 1968 - 2000.
(20) 144 Indian primary schools closed down from 1968 - 2000.
(21) 2637 Malay primary schools built from 1968 - 2000.
(22) 2.5% is government budget for Chinese primary schools. Indian schools got only 1%, Malay schools got 96.5%.
(23) While a Chinese parent with RM1000 salary (monthly) cannot get school textbook loan, a Malay parent with RM2000 salary is eligible.
(24) All 10 public university vice chancellors are Malays.
(25) 5% of the government universities’ lecturers are of non-Malay origins. This percentage has been reduced from about 70% in 1965 to only 5% in 2004.
(26) Only 5% has been given to non-Malays for government scholarships in over 40 years.
(27) 0 Chinese or Indians were sent to Japan and Korea under the “Look East Policy.”
(28) 128 STPM Chinese top students could not get into the course to which they aspired, i.e. Medicine (in 2004).
(29) 10% quotas are in place for non-Bumi students for MARA science schools beginning in 2003, but only 7% are filled. Before that it was 100% Malays.
(30) 50 cases in which Chinese and Indian Malaysians are beaten up in the National Service program in 2003.
(31) 25% of the Malaysian population was Chinese in 2004, a drop from 45% in 1957.
(32) 7% of the Malaysian population is Indian (2004), a drop from 12% in 1957.
(33) 2 million Chinese Malaysians have emigrated in the past 40 years.
(34) 0.5 million Indian Malaysians have emigrated overseas.
(35) 3 millions Indonesians have migrated to Malaysia and become Malaysian citizens with Bumis status.
(36) 600,000 Chinese and Indian Malaysians with red IC were rejected repeatedly when applying for citizenship in the past 40 years. Perhaps 60% of them had already passed away due to old age. This shows racism, based on how easily Indonesians got their citizenships compared with the Chinese and Indians.
(37) 5% - 15% discount for a Malay to buy a house, regardless whether the Malay is rich or poor.
(38) 2% is what new Chinese villages get, compared with 98% - what Malay villages got for rural development budget.
(39) 50 road names (at least) had been changed from Chinese names to other names.
(40) 1 Dewan Gan Boon Leong (in Malacca) was altered to another name (e.g. Dewan Serbaguna or something like that) when it was only officially used for a few days. The government tries to shun Chinese names. This example of racism occurred around 2000.
(41) 0 temples/churches were built for each housing estate. But every housing estate got at least one mosque/surau built.
(42) 3000 mosques/surau were built in all housing estates throughout Malaysia since 1970. No temples or churches are required to be built in housing estates.
(43) 1 Catholic church in Shah Alam took 20 years to apply to have a building constructed. But they were told by Malay authority that it must look like a factory and not like a church. As of 2004 the application still have not been approved.
(44) 1 publishing of Bible in Iban language banned (in 2002).
(45) 0 of the government TV stations (RTM1, RTM2, TV3) are directors of non-Malay origin.
(46) 30 government produced TV dramas and films always showed that the bad guys had Chinese faces, and the good guys had Malay faces. You can check it out since 1970s. Recent years, this has become less of a tendency.
(47) 10 times, at least, Malays (especially Umno) had threatened to massacre the Chinese Malaysians using May 13, since 1969.
(48) 20 constituencies won by DAP would not get funds from the government to develop. These Chinese majority constituencies would be the last to be developed.
(49) 100 constituencies (parliaments and states) had been racially re-delineated so Chinese votes were diluted for Chinese candidates. This is one of the main reasons why DAP candidates have consistently lost in elections since the 1970s.
(50) Only 3 out of 12 human rights items are ratified by the Malaysian government since 1960.
(51) 0 - elimination of all forms of racial discrimination (UN Human Rights) has not been ratified by Malaysian government since 1960s.
(52) 20 reported cases whereby Malay ambulance attendances treated Chinese patients inhumanely, and Malay government hospital staffs purposely delayed attending to Chinese patients in 2003. Unreported cases may be 200.
(53) 50 cases each year whereby Chinese, especially Chinese youths, are being beaten up by Malay youths in public places. Police reports may be checked to verify this, provided the police took the report, otherwise there will be no record.
(54) 20 cases every year whereby Chinese drivers who accidentally knocked down Malays were seriously assaulted or killed by Malays.
(55) 12% is what ASB/ASN got per annum while banks fixed deposits are only about 3.5% per annum.
Malaysia Boleh.
情画 - 周杰伦,刘畊宏
一夜间,
爱上这一首歌...
~~
画上的油彩早已被风干
该怎么来完成我不明白
记忆的图案放在旧货摊
我担心会有谁懂的疼爱
雪白的礼服挂在那等待
淡淡的灰朦有一丝悲哀
教堂门已开而你却不在
玫瑰步道看不到末端
我孤单 我不安
思绪被封住了口
黑夜却还是不罢手
强颜欢笑背后
在暗淡中摸索
我祈祷只愿你听得到
从分开到现在
我过的我在习惯
伤痛却依然在扩散
时间不听使唤
为回忆上了锁
这段情我已放不开
雪白的礼服挂在那等待
淡淡的灰朦有一丝悲哀
教堂门已开而你却不在
玫瑰步道看不到末端
我孤单 我不安
思绪被封住了口
黑夜却还是不罢手
强颜欢笑背后
在暗淡中摸索
我祈祷只愿你听得到
从分开到现在
我过的我在习惯
伤痛却依然在扩散
时间不听使唤
为回忆上了锁
这段情我已放不开
我孤单 我不安
思绪被封住了口
黑夜却还是不罢手
强颜欢笑背後
在暗淡中摸索
我祈祷只愿你听得到
从分开到现在
我过的我在习惯
伤痛却依然在扩散
时间不听使唤
为回忆上了锁
这段情我已放不开
Secret Garden of Canterbury
DSCN8117
Having been here in Canterbury for almost 2 years now, but not that often been to all the gardens of Canterbury.
DSCN8118
Well, since Kent has its name, Garden of England, and its true. I have to say, this garden is really a secret garden, not much people came across with it, or even knew about it, including those who have been staying in Canterbury ever since.
There is only one way in, and other gates are locked.. The passage towards the garden does not really looks like its leading you to a whole new place, but just rather a small garage door with dirty dustbins around, broken windows of an abandoned building right beside the entrance, but after the gates, walking pass the small bridge, there came a small little unnoticed sign, Greyfriars Garden. But known to much people as the "Secret Garden"...
DSCN8179
Located at a small island, between the pathway of River Stour in Canterbury, it doesn't even appears in the normal map of Canterbury, nor it has its name on the map, maybe because the island is too small to be noticed, or its just secret.
Secret came with its beauty as well.. Being an island, having the clean and clear River Stour flowing, its just nice and warm place for us to go during Spring or Summer.
There is also a quiet chapel, still had its original building design, survived through World War's bombing, or the age of time. Many does not know as well, this chapel is previously used as a prison, where prison spent his/hers locked days looking out of the window into the stream, but couldn't go out for a walk.
